Urgent Fundraising for Makar's Rehabilitation

Update 25 February 2018

Great news- the fundraising has been completed and Makar is getting ready to head off for the course of rehabilitation in China. Thank you to everyone for supporting this cause! Despite the very short time frame, we have been successful in raising 1565 AUD. The rest of the costs were covered from our non-specific funds.

About this project

We are announcing URGENT fundraising for the rehabilitation of 4-year old Makar Cibulin from Perm (Russia). Makar has been scheduled to attend a two month rehabilitation program in Harbin (China) on the 28 February 2018.

Following a serious birth trauma, Makar has been diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy. His mother, Olga, was overwhelmed with joy throughout her pregnancy which has been long anticipated. Yet, during labour, the contractions were unproductive and the child stopped breathing after being unable to progress through the birth canal. The baby’s neck was injured as the medical staff assisted with the delivery process. Makar spent his first three days of life connected to a ventilator for breathing support. He is now 4 years of age, but each day in the boy’s life continues to be a battle.

Makar is nevertheless fortunate to have a very motivated mother who believes in her little champion. With the help of constant intervention, Makar has learned to turn, crawl on his tummy, sit on all fours and stand on his knees. At this stage, he is learning to get up and take his first steps while at the same time, developing his verbal communication skills.

Olga has a lot of trust in the professionalism of Chinese specialists at the Harbin rehabilitation clinic, where Makar is scheduled to receive a two-month therapy course at the end of February. The family requires 3,000 AUD to cover the rest of the costs, however, there are only 2 weeks left to raise this amount.
